Government Degree College Drass Celebrates World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day
Facilitates Participants of I-NITIATE Program of IIT Madras
Drass May 8, 2026: Government Degree College Drass celebrated World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day with great enthusiasm and a spirit of humanitarian service. The programme was organized under the guidance of NSS Convenor Tsewang Gailtsen, who coordinated the event.
The event commenced with a welcome address by the Principal, MNM Shabani, who highlighted the significance of humanitarian values, compassion, social service and volunteerism inspired by the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. He encouraged students to actively participate in community service and contribute towards building a more compassionate society.
As part of the celebration, a painting competition was organized on the themes of humanity, peace, and service. Students from Government Higher Secondary School Bhimbhat and Government Degree College Drass participated enthusiastically and displayed remarkable creativity and awareness through their artwork.
In the competition, students from Higher Secondary School Bhimbhat secured the first and second positions, while the third position was secured by a student from Government Degree College Drass. The participants were appreciated for their creativity, enthusiasm, and meaningful representation of humanitarian values.
On the occasion, the Principal also facilitated the participants of the I-NITIATE Program 2026 of Indian Institute of Technology Madras held at IIT Jammu from 1st May to 4th May 2026. The team from Government Degree College Drass represented the Union Territory of Ladakh among 11 startups and teams from various universities and IITs across the country. The team showcased their innovative project aimed at mitigating human-wildlife conflict in the Drass region.
The programme concluded with appreciation for all participants, volunteers for making the event meaningful and successful.
