GDC Kargil Sankoo Campus Conducts Swachhta Abhiyan at Karpokhar Picnic Spot and Suru River

Sankoo, May 16, 2026: Government Degree College Sankoo organized an extensive Swachhta Abhiyan at the scenic Karpokhar picnic spot and the nearby banks of the Suru River with the active participation of college staff and students. The cleanliness drive covered all the peripheral areas of Karpokhar and adjoining surroundings of the Suru River with the aim of promoting environmental awareness, public hygiene, and responsible tourism.

The programme was conducted under the dynamic guidance of Dr. Saleem Ahmed, Nodal Officer, Government Degree College Sankoo, while Dr. Fayaz Hussain served as the Convener of the event. Mr. Sajad Hussain, Assistant Professor Chemistry, Mr. Ali Rahim, Assistant Professor Environmental Science, and Dr. Atif, Assistant Professor Physical Education, actively coordinated the programme as Co-Conveners and motivated the students throughout the campaign.

Dr. Bilques Fatima administered the Swachhta Pledge to all participants, urging students and staff members to remain committed towards cleanliness, environmental protection, and responsible civic behaviour.

More than 80 students along with teaching and non-teaching staff members enthusiastically participated in the cleanliness drive. The volunteers collected plastic waste, bottles, polythene bags, and other non-biodegradable materials from the picnic spot and nearby riverbanks to preserve the natural beauty and ecological significance of the Suru Valley.

Speaking on the occasion, the organizers emphasized that cleanliness is not merely a duty but a collective social responsibility. They appealed to tourists, local residents, and youth to actively participate in safeguarding natural resources and maintaining the cleanliness of public and tourist places.

The college administration appreciated the commitment, discipline, and enthusiastic participation of all students and staff members for making the Swachhta Abhiyan highly successful. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to continue such awareness and environmental conservation initiatives in the future for building a cleaner, greener, and healthier society.
