In a moment of pride for Ladakh, Dr. Haseena Banoo, daughter of Shabir Hussain and a resident of Titichumik, Kargil, has secured a patent in the field of sports physiotherapy, marking a significant achievement in healthcare innovation.
Dr. Haseena Banoo, a Master of Physiotherapy student at Chandigarh University, published her patent with the Indian Patent Office under Application Number 202611028141. The research work was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Sougata Panda, Associate Professor, Department of Physiotherapy.
The innovation focuses on improving the assessment of chronic ankle instability among recreational athletes. The idea emerged during her clinical training, where she observed that many athletes continued to suffer from ankle instability, recurrent injuries, and balance issues despite undergoing standard rehabilitation.
Addressing this challenge, the research proposes a more objective and clinically applicable method to assess ankle laxity and balance deficits. The innovation is expected to support early identification of injury risks, enhance rehabilitation strategies, and improve return-to-play decisions for athletes.
Such advancements are crucial, as ankle injuries remain among the most common issues affecting active individuals, often leading to long-term complications if not properly assessed.
Dr. Haseena’s achievement highlights the growing contribution of young researchers from Ladakh in advancing evidence-based sports medicine and reflects the increasing focus on research-driven healthcare innovation in the country.
