Kargil, June 04, 2026: Government Degree College Kargil, Sankoo Campus organized a three-day educational field trip from 30th May to 2nd June 2026 to Zanskar, comprising 21 students from the Departments of Political Science, Economics, Sociology, and History. The tour was conducted under the guidance of Disket Angmo, Principal GDCK and Saleem Ahmed Nodal Officer Sankoo Campus.
The field trip was coordinated under the supervision of faculty members including, Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Dr. Mohd Sharif of Political Science Department, Dr. Stanzin Yangdol of History Department, Assistant Professor Tsering Angmo of Sociology Department, Ms. Zarina Banoo Assistant Professor of Economics department and Mr. Shabir Ali, Skill Instructor HATG.
The field visit aimed to provide experiential learning and promote interdisciplinary understanding of the historical, socio-economic, political, cultural, and environmental dimensions of the Zanskar region. It enabled students to connect classroom learning with field-based observations.
The group departed from Sankoo on 31 May and reached Padum in the evening. During the tour, students visited Stagrimo Monastery, Sani Lake, Karsha Monastery, Bardan Monastery, Sheela Waterfall, Padum Market, Sani Monastery, the historic Sani Chorten (Kanishka Stupa), and the Drang Drung Glacier.
At Karsha Monastery, students interacted with monks and learned about the monastery’s rich history, administrative structure, and cultural significance. They also engaged with the Women’s Alliance of Zanskar, gaining insights into women’s role in community development, social welfare, and local governance.
Visits to Sheela Waterfall and Drang Drung Glacier enhanced students’ understanding of environmental conservation, climate change, and the importance of natural resources in mountain ecosystems.
The tour also fostered cultural awareness and mutual understanding by exposing students to the region’s diverse heritage, religious traditions, and social institutions. Overall, the visit significantly enriched students’ academic knowledge.
