Leh, July 4: The inaugural function of the Stock Assistant and Veterinary Pharmacist Training Course for the academic session 2026–27 was held at the Stock Assistant Training Institute, Leh, under the aegis of the Sheep Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh. A total of 28 trainees have been enrolled for the current academic session.
The programme was graced by Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh, as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Mohammad Ismail, Director, Animal Husbandry Department, UT Ladakh, attended as the Guest of Honour. The event was also attended by Dr. Tsewang Murup, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Leh; Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Leh; along with senior officers from the Sheep Husbandry and Animal Husbandry Departments.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Padma Yangzom, who highlighted the objectives, course structure, and long-term vision of the training programme. She also sought the continued cooperation and support of both departments to ensure its successful implementation.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tsewang Murup underscored the vital role of skilled para-veterinary professionals in strengthening livestock healthcare services across the region. Dr. Shakeel Ahmad emphasized the importance of practical training, professional competence, and dedication in delivering quality animal healthcare services.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mohammad Ismail assured the institute of the Animal Husbandry Department’s full cooperation and continued support for the smooth and effective conduct of the training programme.
In his keynote address, Chief Guest Dr. Iftikhar Hussain congratulated the newly enrolled trainees and appreciated the efforts of the institute in organizing the programme. He encouraged the trainees to make the most of the training opportunity, maintain high standards of professionalism, and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the livestock sector in UT Ladakh.
The inaugural function concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, officers, faculty members, and trainees for their presence and support in making the event a success.
