Indian Army Marks International Women’s Day with Health Camp in Kargil, Promotes Women Empowerment
In Ladakh, reaffirming its commitment to women empowerment and community welfare, the Indian Army celebrated International Women’s Day by organising a comprehensive Medical Camp and Voluntary Blood Donation Drive at Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium in Kargil district.
The camp was jointly organised by 121 Brigade, Military Hospital Kargil, 22 Kumaon and District Hospital Kargil with a special focus on improving access to healthcare services for women and promoting awareness about preventive health practices.
A total of 129 people were provided free medical consultation and medicines during the camp, including 72 females and 57 males, reflecting significant participation of women. Services offered included voluntary blood donation, eye screening, consultations with medical and surgical specialists, dental check-ups and psychological counselling.
Special screening for free cataract surgeries was also conducted for eligible patients. The surgeries will be carried out at 153 General Hospital from 27th to 30th April 2026. Selected beneficiaries will receive free surgery, medicines, sunglasses, food, transport and accommodation.
By organising the camp on International Women’s Day, the Indian Army once again demonstrated its dual commitment to national service and social responsibility, particularly empowering women and strengthening healthcare outreach in remote border areas.
The local population appreciated the initiative and thanked the Indian Army for providing free treatment and medicines, especially benefiting women and economically weaker sections, and expressed hope that such welfare programmes will continue in the future.
