A Tuberculosis (TB) Awareness Programme was conducted today at District Hospital Drass under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) with the objective of spreading awareness about TB and eliminating the social stigma associated with the disease.
During the programme, doctors and health officials educated participants about the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of tuberculosis. Special emphasis was laid on the theme “The Stigma about TB is worse than TB,” highlighting that fear, myths, and discrimination often prevent patients from seeking timely diagnosis and treatment.
The speakers informed the gathering that TB is a completely curable disease and that patients who follow the prescribed treatment under the DOTS programme become non-infectious after a few weeks of regular medication. They appealed to the public to support TB patients with compassion, care, and respect instead of discrimination.
Awareness materials and informative displays were showcased during the event to encourage the community to recognize TB symptoms early, seek prompt medical attention, and complete the full course of treatment.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by participants to spread awareness, fight misinformation, and work together towards achieving a TB-free Drass and TB-free India.On this occasion DC Drass and BMO Drass were present
