LAHDC Kargil Chairman Welcomes Release of Sonam Wangchuk, Calls for Dialogue and Peace
Kargil, Ladakh: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, has welcomed the release of Sonam Wangchuk and expressed happiness over the development.
On behalf of LAHDC Kargil and himself, Dr. Akhoon extended his good wishes to Wangchuk, his family, and the people of Ladakh.Dr. Akhoon also appreciated the step taken by the Government of India in revoking Wangchuk’s detention, stating that the decision will help strengthen the atmosphere of peace, harmony, and stability in Ladakh.He noted that Sonam Wangchuk has been an important voice from Ladakh and his contributions toward education, environmental awareness, and the welfare of the region are widely recognized.
The Chairman expressed hope that Wangchuk’s release will pave the way for constructive dialogue on the genuine aspirations and concerns of the people of Ladakh. He added that through meaningful engagement, the long-pending demands of the people of Ladakh can find a positive resolution from the Government of India.Dr. Akhoon also urged the Government of India to consider revoking the cases registered against other detainees connected with the incident of September 24. He said such a step would further strengthen the atmosphere of trust and normalcy across Ladakh.
He appreciated the people of Ladakh for maintaining peace, patience, and dignity during this period, reflecting the unity and spirit of the region.Dr. Akhoon once again conveyed his best wishes to Sonam Wangchuk and expressed hope that Ladakh will continue to move forward on the path of peace, unity, and development.
