Tremors were felt in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday after an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck the valley, triggering brief panic among residents. People in multiple areas reported feeling the ground shake, according to some social media posts.
According to initial data sourced from GFZ and shared via Kashmir Weather, the quake occurred at a depth of 175 km, with its epicentre located at coordinates 36.52°N latitude and 71.01°E longitude.
The impact was also felt in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), according to initial reports.
