First NDPS Case Registered in Zanskar; ~900g Ganja Seized at Kargyak Checkpoint
Kargil, 18 April 2026 : In a significant development, the first case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 has been registered in Zanskar following a successful naka checking operation at Police Check Post (PCP) Kargyak.During routine checking, approximately 900 grams of ganja was recovered, leading to the registration of FIR No. 03/2026 at Police Station Zanskar.
The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kargil appreciated the efforts of SHO Inspector Tsewang Norboo and his team for their alertness and prompt action in curbing illegal drug activities in the region.
Police have urged the general public to cooperate in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. Citizens are encouraged to share any information related to narcotics, with assurance that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
