In Ladakh, Arbaeen-e-Hussaini, marking the 40th day of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), was observed with profound religious devotion and solemnity in Kargil today. The commemorative programmes were organised under the banner of the Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Ashriya Kargil (JUIAK) and the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT), Kargil.
Thousands of mourners from different parts of Kargil district and neighbouring regions participated in the Arbaeen procession, reaffirming the timeless message of truth, justice, sacrifice and resistance against oppression as exemplified by Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at Karbala.
The day began with Majalis and sermons by prominent religious scholars, who highlighted the universal values of the Karbala movement and called upon people to uphold peace, unity, compassion and moral responsibility. Participants recited elegies and nohas throughout the procession, paying homage to the martyrs of Karbala.
This year, for the first time, the route of the main Arbaeen procession was revised. The new route facilitated smoother movement of the large gathering, reduced congestion and ensured the peaceful and disciplined conduct of the procession.
The District Administration, Kargil, in coordination with Ladakh Police, health authorities, Municipal Committee, Fire and Emergency Services, volunteers and other line departments, made elaborate arrangements for security, traffic management, medical assistance, sanitation, drinking water and other essential services. The procession concluded peacefully amid strict security and efficient crowd management.
The annual observance of Arbaeen-e-Hussaini in Kargil is among the largest religious gatherings in Ladakh, reflecting the region’s deep spiritual traditions and communal harmony.
