Baroo – Sankoo National Highway in Poor Condition Despite Repeated Appeals; Cleric Urges Immediate Action
Kargil, April 25:
The condition of the Baroo to Sankoo stretch of the National Highway 301 continues to deteriorate, raising serious safety concerns among commuters, despite repeated public appeals and widespread attention on social media.
Over the past several months, locals have shared videos highlighting the damaged and cracked road surface. Poets, short filmmakers, religious leaders, and civil society groups have also raised their voices, urging authorities to take immediate corrective measures. However, residents allege that no repair work has been undertaken so far.
The issue gained further attention during Friday’s sermon at Houzi-e-Ilmiya Isna Ashria, where noted cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Khalili strongly appealed to the UT administration to address the matter without delay. He emphasized that the road’s poor condition poses a grave risk, particularly for patients, pregnant women, and elderly citizens who frequently travel on this route.
In his address, Sheikh Khalili also made a humanitarian appeal, urging local contractors to step in and carry out temporary repairs by filling dangerous cracks if official action is delayed. “Public safety must come first,” he stressed, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Residents have expressed frustration over the continued neglect of such a road link, which serves as a lifeline. Many believe that the administration must take such concerns seriously and prioritize essential infrastructure, especially when repeated warnings and appeals have already been made.
