Kargil, July 5: Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science at Government Degree College Drass, Dr. Sajjad Hussain, has successfully defended his PhD on an innovative research topic focusing on sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation in Ladakh.
His doctoral research, titled “Use of Prunus armeniaca (Apricot) Shell Biochar Collected from Cold Desert Climatic Area of Ladakh as Soil Enhancer,” explores the conversion of apricot shell waste into eco-friendly biochar to improve soil fertility and crop productivity in the fragile cold desert ecosystem of Ladakh.
The research highlights a sustainable “waste-to-wealth” approach by utilizing locally available agricultural waste to enhance soil health while promoting environmentally responsible farming practices.
Dr. Hussain has also earned international recognition through the publication of three research papers in reputed Scopus-indexed journals, including two journals from the Nature Portfolio.
His achievement has been widely appreciated by the academic community and is expected to inspire further research in sustainable agriculture and environmental management in the Himalayan region.
