 Ladakh Shines at 1st PTF India Open International Taekwondo Championships, Secures Overall Third Position

Srinagar, June 3: The Union Territory of Ladakh delivered an outstanding performance at the 1st PTF India Open International Taekwondo Championships 2026 held at Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Stadium, Srinagar, securing the Overall Third Position Trophy among the participating teams.

The Ladakh contingent, comprising 19 athletes (7 girls and 12 boys), showcased remarkable talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the championship. The team secured an impressive tally of 07 Gold Medals, 04 Silver Medals, and 05 Bronze Medals, bringing pride and recognition to the Union Territory.

The team was led by Mohd Ali, Coach, SAI Training Centre Kargil, and Assistant Coach Sadiq Ali, whose dedicated training and guidance played a vital role in the athletes’ success at the prestigious international event.

The championship witnessed the participation of more than 400 athletes from India and six countries, making Ladakh’s achievement even more significant.

Founder of Taekwondo in Ladakh, Nissar Hussain Balkhi, congratulated the medal winners, coaches, and the entire contingent for their exceptional performance. He particularly appreciated the efforts of SAI Training Centre Kargil for nurturing young talent and producing athletes capable of competing successfully at national and international levels.

He stated that the achievement reflects the growing standard of Taekwondo in Ladakh and serves as an inspiration for young sportspersons across the region. He expressed confidence that with continued support and dedication, Ladakh’s athletes will achieve even greater success in future championships.

Nissar Hussain Balkhi also appreciated the efforts of Grandmaster Atul Pangotra, President PTF India for his unwavering commitment towards the development and promotion of Taekwondo across the country. He lauded Grandmaster Pangotra’s vision of creating a professional platform for athletes and providing them with greater opportunities to showcase their talent at national and international levels. He expressed hope that the Professional Taekwondo Federation’s initiatives would continue to flourish and contribute significantly to the growth of the sport, producing future champions and elevating India’s presence in the global Taekwondo arena.
