LG Ladakh Removes Career Restrictions for Educated Government Employees

Historic Reform in Ladakh: Graduate Government Employees Allowed to Apply for Higher PostsIn a major and progressive reform aimed at ensuring fair career opportunities for the youth of Ladakh, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh has ordered the immediate removal of restrictions that prevented government employees holding graduate and higher qualifications, but appointed on lower-qualification posts, from applying for graduate-level government posts in the future.

Earlier, many employees appointed as Orderlies, MTS and similar posts were compelled to declare themselves only as 10th or 12th pass candidates at the time of appointment, despite possessing higher educational qualifications. This restrictive policy denied them rightful career advancement and limited their opportunities for professional growth.

Calling the restriction unjustified and contrary to the fundamental right of individuals to seek appropriate employment, the Hon’ble LG stated that the decision will open new avenues for thousands of educated youth already serving in lower-category government posts across Ladakh.

With the implementation of this reform, eligible government employees possessing graduate or higher degrees will now be able to compete for graduate-level posts, ensuring equal opportunity, fair career progression, and a more responsive and inclusive governance system.

The UT Administration of Ladakh reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the interests of the youth and introducing inclusive reforms that promote transparency, fairness, and professional growth within the administration. The order has come into immediate effect.
