MP Ladakh Raises Women’s Reservation and Key Regional Demands in Parliament

New Delhi, April 18, 2026:The Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Mohammad Haneefa Jan, today addressed the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the 131st Constitution Amendment Bill, 2026.

During his address, the MP reiterated his strong and consistent support for reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, emphasizing that greater participation of women in governance is essential for building an inclusive and progressive India.

While supporting the national reform, he also firmly raised several important concerns and demands regarding Ladakh, highlighting the need to address regional aspirations alongside constitutional changes.

The key demands put forward include:

▪️ Allocation of two Lok Sabha seats for Ladakh — one each for Leh and Kargil, to ensure equitable representation

▪️ Provision of constitutional safeguards and establishment of a Legislative Assembly for Ladakh

▪️ Time-bound resumption and conclusion of dialogue with Ladakhi representatives

▪️ Immediate operationalization of the five newly announced districts▪️ No alteration of existing district boundaries

▪️ Strong opposition to the creation of new districts on communal linesThe MP stressed that Ladakh’s unique identity, administrative needs, and democratic aspirations must be given due importance.
