MP Ladakh Welcomes Revocation of Detention of Sonam Wangchuk, Calls for Justice and Dialogue
Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa has welcomed the decision of the Government of India to revoke the detention of Sonam Wangchuk, calling it a positive step towards restoring trust and creating space for meaningful and constructive dialogue on the genuine aspirations of the people of Ladakh.
The MP stated that this decision will help in rebuilding confidence among the people and create a conducive environment for discussions regarding the protection of Ladakhβs unique identity, fragile environment, culture and long-term future.However, he emphasized that the deep pain and frustration among the people of Ladakh, especially the youth, cannot be overlooked. For months, the youth, civil society organizations, and the leadership of the Kargil Democratic Alliance and the Leh Apex Body, along with political and religious leaders, have been peacefully raising their voices for safeguarding Ladakhβs interests.
The unfortunate events that unfolded and the detention of respected leaders caused immense disappointment and emotional distress among the people.The MP also made a sincere appeal to the Government of India and the Union Territory Administration to consider the release of those individuals who are still in jail in connection with that unfortunate day. He stated that true healing and reconciliation can only take place when such matters are addressed with compassion, fairness and wisdom.He further said that Ladakh will never forget the tragic loss of four precious lives on that black day.
Those four souls remain in the prayers of every Ladakhi, while their families continue to bear unimaginable pain. Justice for them is not just a demand but a responsibility that the people of Ladakh deeply hope will be fulfilled.The MP noted that the people of Ladakh, particularly the youth, stood united in support of Sonam Wangchuk and the leadership of the KDA and Apex Body.
He expressed hope that all charges framed against him and against any Ladakhi in connection with those unfortunate events will be reviewed and cleared in the spirit of justice and reconciliation.βThe youth of Ladakh seek hope, dignity and a secure future. It is now time to heal the wounds, rebuild trust and move forward through sincere dialogue so that the aspirations of the people of Ladakh are addressed with fairness and respect,β the MP said.
