Parveen Akhtar from Kargil Wins Prestigious IARI Innovative Award at Pusa
In a proud moment for Ladakh, Parveen Akhtar, a progressive farmer and entrepreneur from Wakha village in Kargil district, has won one of the country’s prestigious Innovative Awards at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Pusa, New Delhi. She received the award on the recommendation of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kargil-I.
Parveen Akhtar runs “Larsi Organics,” an enterprise well known across the Union Territory of Ladakh and neighboring states for promoting organic produce and value-added products. Her achievement has brought laurels to the district and highlights the growing role of women in agriculture and entrepreneurship.
Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Kargil, Dr. Nassreen F. Kacho, expressed happiness over the achievement and termed it a proud moment for the farming community of Kargil. She said progressive farmer Haji Mohd was nominated for the same award last year and urged the UT Ladakh administration to consider both achievers for state and district-level awards, as they have already secured national recognition.
Speaking over phone, Parveen Akhtar thanked KVK Kargil for its continuous guidance and support in bringing her work to the national platform. She also expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Executive Councillor Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council and to Raza Ali, CHO Horticulture, for their support.
Dr. Kacho also appreciated the scientific staff of KVK for documenting success stories and acknowledged the contribution of progressive farmers and farm women in bringing national recognition to the district.
The achievement is being seen as an inspiration for young women and aspiring entrepreneurs across Ladakh.
