Kargil, June 15, 2026: In view of the upcoming Muharram observances and the need to improve traffic management and parking facilities, the Municipal Committee Kargil today carried out a major roadside clearance drive along the Circular Old Hospital Road from Bus Stand to Upper Changchik.
The drive was conducted under the leadership of Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Kargil, Ayas Ahmad (JKAS), in coordination with ADDC Kargil, Ghulam Mohd (JKAS).
During the operation, accumulated debris (malba) and other obstructions along the roadside were cleared to facilitate road widening and improve vehicular movement. A total of 15 labourers, two JCB machines and two dumpers were deployed for the clearance work.
ADDC, Kargil said the initiative has been undertaken in view of the scarcity of parking space in the Main Bazaar area and the anticipated increase in traffic during Muharram. The widening of the Circular Road is expected to ease congestion by providing an alternative route for commuters and helping regulate traffic flow during the religious observances.
He stated that such clearance and road improvement works will continue in other identified locations to enhance public convenience, improve urban infrastructure and ensure smooth movement of vehicles during Muharram and other major events.
