Secretary Tourism Sanjit Rodrigues Launches Holistic Homestay Support Framework and Inaugurates 21-Day Structured Homestay Training Program at SIHM Ladakh
Leh, Ladakh: Secretary Tourism, Sanjit Rodrigues, today launched the Holistic Homestay Support Framework and inaugurated the 21-Day Structured Homestay Training Program at the State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM), Ladakh. The initiative aims to empower local homestay hosts and further strengthen community-based tourism across the region.
The program has been designed to provide structured training and capacity-building opportunities for homestay owners and aspiring hosts from different parts of Ladakh. Through this initiative, participants will gain practical knowledge and professional skills related to hospitality management, guest services, hygiene and sanitation standards, local cuisine preparation, and responsible tourism practices.Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Tourism Sanjit Rodrigues highlighted the important role of homestays in promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism in Ladakh.
He stated that homestays not only offer visitors an authentic cultural experience but also create livelihood opportunities for local communities while preserving Ladakh’s traditions, culture, and environment.He further emphasized that the Holistic Homestay Support Framework will provide comprehensive support to homestay operators, including training, guidance, and improved standards for hospitality services. The framework aims to enhance the quality of accommodation and ensure that visitors receive a warm and authentic Ladakhi hospitality experience.
The 21-day structured training program will equip participants with essential hospitality skills and knowledge, enabling them to effectively manage homestay operations and meet the growing expectations of domestic and international tourists.Officials from the Tourism Department, faculty members of SIHM Ladakh, and homestay operators from different regions of Ladakh attended the inaugural session.
This initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening Ladakh’s tourism sector and promoting sustainable, community-based tourism that benefits local communities while enhancing the overall visitor experience in the region.
