A video that went viral across social media platforms today has sparked widespread debate and raised serious questions regarding traffic management and implementation of one-way movement regulations at Zoji La Pass. The viral footage reportedly shows traffic authorities enforcing one-way traffic restrictions on the Srinagar–Leh National Highway.
However, despite the restrictions being cited, a large number of vehicles can allegedly be seen travelling from Sonamarg towards Minamarg during the same period. In the video, a driver who identifies himself as a resident of Kargil claims that several vehicles from Ladakh were stopped by authorities and made to wait on the roadside for hours.
According to the driver, officials informed them that due to one-way traffic regulations in place at Zoji La Pass, vehicles from the Ladakh side would not be allowed to proceed further today. The driver further alleges that while Ladakh-bound vehicles were halted, nearly 40 to 50 vehicles from Jammu & Kashmir were reportedly allowed to move ahead without interruption.
The visuals captured in the video also appear to show a continuous movement of vehicles from Srinagar towards Minamarg, despite the restrictions that were reportedly imposed on the other side. The incident has triggered strong reactions online, with many social media users questioning whether traffic regulations were implemented fairly and uniformly for all commuters travelling on the highway.
Several users have also expressed concern over the difficulties faced by passengers and drivers travelling towards Ladakh, especially considering the importance of the Srinagar–Leh highway as a vital lifeline for the region. The viral video has now intensified public discussion regarding transparency, coordination, and traffic management procedures at Zoji La Pass.
Many people are demanding clarification from the concerned authorities regarding the actual traffic plan in force at the time and the reasons behind the alleged selective movement of vehicles. As of now, no official statement or clarification has been issued by the administration or traffic authorities regarding the claims made in the viral video.
Further details are awaited.
