Iran–U.S. Talks in Islamabad End Without Agreement After 21 Hours

Islamabad, April 12: The Iranian-American negotiations held in the Pakistani capital concluded without reaching an agreement after 21 hours of intensive discussions.According to official statements, the talks failed due to what was described as American intransigence and excessive demands, despite multiple initiatives presented by the Iranian side.

The Iranian delegation maintained that it resisted attempts to impose political and military concessions, including issues related to the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of nuclear materials from the country. The Iranian delegation, led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and comprising senior officials including Abbas Araghchi and Ali Bagheri Kani, stated that it successfully countered what it termed as American overreach while defending Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

The final round of discussions, conducted at dawn under Pakistani mediation, ended without any agreement on a future round of talks, including the date or venue.Sources indicated that the American delegation appeared unwilling to continue the negotiations and may have been seeking grounds to disengage from the process. Observers suggest that the talks may have been used by the U.S. side to manage its international image rather than to reach a substantive agreement.

The Iranian side emphasized that it remained committed to safeguarding national interests and preserving achievements made on the ground. Officials further indicated that Iran does not currently plan to engage in another round of negotiations.
