Clarification Issued on Educational Qualification Rules in Ladakh Recruitment
Ladakh , March 2026:The Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh, through its General Administration Department (GAD), has issued an official clarification regarding the prospective effect of S.O. 165 dated 20.03.2026, which pertains to the removal of maximum educational qualification requirements in subordinate service recruitment rules.
As per the Office Memorandum, the provisions of S.O. 165 shall apply prospectively only, i.e., from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. This means that the revised rules will be applicable only to recruitment processes initiated after the notification date and will not impact or alter the eligibility criteria of recruitment processes conducted prior to its issuance.
The memorandum further clarifies that candidates who, in previous recruitment processes, submitted undertakings or affidavits declaring themselves as possessing only 12th qualification (despite holding higher qualifications at that time) and secured appointments to non-graduate posts, shall be considered ineligible for future recruitment to graduate-level posts. Such declarations will be treated as final and binding.
However, candidates who have acquired a graduate degree after joining government service, or were already pursuing graduation at the time of appointment and later completed their degree, will have their qualifications duly recognized. Such candidates will remain eligible to apply for graduate-level posts, subject to fulfillment of other prescribed conditions.
The Administration has urged all candidates and stakeholders to take note of this clarification and ensure adherence to the prescribed rules in all future recruitment processes.
